The Dubai Mallathon launched as a citywide fitness initiative transforming shopping malls into air-conditioned walking and running tracks.
Organised in alignment with the Year of Community campaign, the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33, the Dubai Mallathon aims to foster healthier living by providing safe, climate-controlled environments for residents and visitors to stay active throughout the summer.
The initiative will be held across nine leading malls: Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Marina Mall, The Springs Souk, Dubai Festival City, and Festival Plaza. Collectively, these venues will offer over 10 kilometres of dedicated indoor tracks, open daily from 7 to 10 am during the month of August.
Daily activities and weekend events across all locations are designed to engage the public in fun, inclusive ways, featuring sports challenges and competitions for all age groups. More than 40 iPhones, 10 tablets, shopping vouchers, and other prizes will be awarded in a festive atmosphere that encourages active community participation.
The Ministry of Defence, a key supporter of the initiative, stated: “We adopt a holistic approach to building a cohesive, resilient society, recognising physical activity as vital to individual and collective wellbeing. Our participation in this initiative reflects our leadership’s vision to embed sport as a cornerstone of daily life and community identity.”
Commenting on the initiative, His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, said: “This initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed to promote the health and wellness of our community. It reinforces the importance of making physical activity a daily habit and underscores Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for sport.”
“The Mallathon brings dedicated tracks to some of Dubai’s most iconic malls, encouraging participants to embrace a fit lifestyle in a fun, accessible setting. From valuable prizes to dedicated activities for senior citizens, this initiative reflects our leadership’s commitment to ensuring that every member of society enjoys a high quality of life and stays actively engaged,” he added.
The Dubai Mallathon is being delivered in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council and supported by both public and private partners. Wellness support will be provided by Mai Dubai, the UAE Sports For All Federation, Al Tadawi Speciality Hospital, and the Dubai Cooperative Society, while Uber and Careem are offering exclusive transport discounts during event hours.
Additional services include free health check-ups, nutritional consultations, and access to healthy food options from select outlets, further reinforcing the Mallathon’s focus on wellness.
Running parallel to the main programme is ‘Walking for Better Health’, an initiative led by the Community Development Authority (CDA), aimed at senior citizens and residents. Hosted within the participating malls, it offers a secure and inclusive space tailored to older adults, underscoring their vital role in society while promoting their health and wellbeing.
Participation in the Dubai Mallathon is free and open to all. Those interested can register at www.dubaimallathon.ae and receive a digital participation card to access all scheduled activities.
